Sruthi & Shreya Padisetty’s Arangetram
In the Bharatanatyam Indian dance tradition, Arangetram is the dancer’s debut solo performance. This first performance follows years of training. Studying Bharatanatyam takes a lot of dedication and hard work, and this event is like a final exam, commencement, and débutante ball all rolled into a beautiful dance.
The word arangetram is from the Tamil language and means ascending the stage by a dancer on the completion of formal training. The dancer can now move forward and pass on the art form to other aspiring learners of the art. To perform an arangetram is an ancient tradition that, prior to 1930, was intended to interest potential patrons, and prior to that was performed for the king.
The dancers are desciples of Smt. M. Subhashini Vijay Santhanam, Artistic Director of the From Within Academy.
